Duties are to support the education, continuing professional development and research needs of members by providing research support and access to information resources and advice.
Develop and implement agreed objectives for the library and information service and provide management information and usage statistics
Regularly review current services and research the needs of end users to ensure service is delivering what members require
Provide advice to colleagues on the contents of available information sources and where relevant access to them
Maintain library systems and access to resources
Manage the online library catalogue, including reviewing regularly for whether upgrades or changes are needed.
Negotiate with suppliers of potential new information sources or services
Promote the library and information service to the end user
Train library users to effectively search, evaluate, and access the library catalogue, internet and other electronic resources, and develop print and web-based research guides and tutorials to do so.
Manage the library’s financial resources within agreed parameters
An undergraduate or postgraduate library/information qualification.
Good working knowledge of science, technology, medicine or health information resources.
Good working knowledge of web technologies and their application in libraries.
Knowledge of reference and library instruction.
Expertise in cataloguing and classification principles and techniques.
Familiar with library management systems and electronic resources management systems.
Some knowledge of a web editing content management system would be helpful.
